Karen joined the Office of the Auditor General in 2014 as an Engagement Leader on the audits of government ministries and agencies including Education, Justice and Solicitor General, Culture and Tourism, the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation, and a number of post-secondary institutions. In 2015, she was promoted to Business Leader – Financial Statement Audit Practice.
Karen brings more than 19 years of auditing and accounting experience to the OAG, and carries a strong foundation in auditing private, school board, and not-for-profit entities. Throughout her career, Karen has been dedicated to engaging in work that delivers value – a cause that brought her to the OAG. Her role supports the Auditor General of Alberta’s vision to continuously evolve and develop more effective auditing methods; ultimately, bringing more value to Albertans.
As an Alberta native, Karen attended the University of Alberta where she received her Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1998. She then became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta in January 2003. From 2007 to 2012, Karen served as a member of the Institute’s Practice Review Committee, taking the place as chair of the committee in 2012. Her fundraising support for the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation demonstrates her dedication to the OAG’s mission of making a difference in the lives Albertans, both in the office and also within the community.
