Who We Are
We are an office of 150 people mandated by the Auditor General Act to examine and report publicly on the Government of Alberta’s management of the public resources entrusted to it. We report directly to the 87 Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and through them, we serve the more than four million people who call Alberta home.

We are the auditors of the province’s consolidated financial statements and provincial agencies, boards, commissions, and regulated funds. We audit so that we can report on how well the government is managing its responsibilities and the province’s resources. Role
Are you seeking an opportunity to leverage your strong Information Technology (IT) audit experience, while working in unique and specialized IT control environments? If so, consider becoming an Information Systems Audit Manager at the Office of the Auditor General of Alberta.
Reporting to an Engagement Leader, you will demonstrate your extensive knowledge of information systems audits in both financial statements and performance audit IT environments, and will assess the design, implementation, and operating effectiveness of government’s IT control environment, while providing recommendations for improvement.
As an Information Systems Audit Manager, you will lead the planning, execution, and reporting of IT system audits, including testing control environments and determining criteria to evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of government IT processes. You will work with our financial statement and performance audit teams and a variety of government entities to evaluate the IT control processes relevant to internal controls. Your role also includes mentoring and coaching CPA students, providing direction, guidance, and support to staff and input into People and Culture processes, while driving engagement and accountability.
This role requires extensive knowledge of IT control systems, infrastructures, processes, operations and risk management frameworks, as well as strong critical thinking, business acumen, leadership, conflict management and audit skills. You must have the ability to make decisions requiring a considerable degree of technical understanding and build collaborative relationships in a team environment with staff, colleagues, and audit entities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Your success in this role depends on your understanding of the IT audit process and your ability to apply tact, diplomacy, and professional judgement in dealing with complex audit challenges.
Qualifications
- An information systems audit and/or security designation (eg., CISA, CISSP, etc.)
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in Information Technology/Business or a related filed, plus a minimum of five years of IT operations or directly related IT audit experience, including demonstrated experience in risk analysis, IT audit testing, documentation and evaluation of controls.
- Experience working with data analysis tools (Diligent, Power BI, etc.)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Working knowledge of SAP ERP system is preferred, or related ERP system
- In-depth knowledge of generally accepted IT frameworks (eg. NIST, COBIT, ISO, ITIL etc., and working knowledge of operating systems and database technologies (Unix/Linux, Windows, Oracle, SQL Server) is desired
- Experience in public sector accounting or large public practice firm, and knowledge of how audit processes impact the evaluation of IT controls are considered an asset
- Experience in a supervisory or managerial role and leading teams
Compensation Plan Includes:
- A competitive annual salary starting at $92,627, commensurate with experience

Notes

- Out-of-town and overnight travel within Alberta may be required for this position.
