Who We Are
We are an office of 150 people mandated by the Auditor General Act to examine and report publicly on the Government of Alberta’s management of the public resources entrusted to it. We report directly to the 87 Members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, and through them, we serve the more than five million people who call Alberta home.
What We Do
We are the auditors of the Consolidated Financial Statements of the Province of Alberta and most provincial agencies, boards, commissions, and regulated funds. We audit to assess how effectively the government is managing its responsibilities and the province’s resources. We provide independent assurance to the people of Alberta that public money is properly accounted for and provides value.
Working with us, you gain unparalleled experience working with provincial government departments, universities and colleges, healthcare services, financial institutions, and research and investment organizations.
Role
Under the guidance of a Senior Staff Auditor, Manager, or Engagement Leader, you will apply Canadian Audit Standards (CAS) and audit methodology in a variety of financial statement and performance audits. You will build relationships and develop an understanding of the auditee’s business, including documenting processes, performing tests of controls, and supporting year-end procedures.
As an Intermediate Staff Auditor, you will work in project-based teams and contribute to the planning, execution, and reporting of assigned audit projects focused on auditing the Government of Alberta’s consolidated financial statements. These projects are of moderate complexity and require the ability to work with a moderate level of independence.
In this role, you will develop strong audit, project management, critical thinking, and communication skills while performing audits that vary in complexity. You will also build your analytical aptitude by using computer-assisted auditing techniques and gain exposure to data analytics in auditing.
In addition to financial statement audits, you may also work on performance audits, which examine the management control systems and processes the government uses to deliver programs and services to Albertans.
Support on Your Journey
As a member of our team, you will have a dedicated career mentor and coach supporting your learning and development. Our experienced mentors understand the demands students face in balancing academic, work, and personal lives. We are committed to supporting you both professionally and personally. You will also work alongside other students, offering mutual support, and fostering collaborative relationships and lasting friendships.
