 - Committee Meetings

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 29 at 8 a.m. with Children and Family Services about the ministry’s 2023–2024 annual report and the outstanding recommendations from our office. Auditor General Doug Wylie and Assistant Auditor General Patty Hayes will attend the meeting as support to the committee members.

There are four outstanding recommendations for the department, including:

  • a 2014 recommendation that focuses on improving user access controls for information systems. It was repeated in 2020.
  • three 2016 recommendations related to improving Systems to Delivery Child and Family Services to Indigenous Children. Our assessment of implementation is currently in progress.

You can watch the meeting at Assembly Online.

Understanding the roles of the Auditor General and PAC

The Auditor General works as a trusted advisor to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (PAC) in its review of government spending. The committee, made up of MLAs from all political parties, uses our reports to examine how government has accounted for and used public funds, and how it is acting on our recommendations. The value of our work is fully realized when our recommendations are acted on. Visit our website to learn more about our recommendations to government and our work in progress.

Appointed under the Auditor General Act, the Auditor General is an Officer of the Legislative Assembly and is the auditor of the Consolidated Financial Statements of the Province of Alberta and most provincial agencies, boards, commissions, and regulated funds.
