Summary

The Public Agency Secretariat, a branch within Alberta’s Public Service Commission, has designed board member recruitment and selection processes for departments to use that help ensure public agency board members have the right skills and experience.

Objective and Scope

Our audit objective was to assess whether the Government of Alberta’s recruitment, screening, selection, and appointment processes, as described in the Guidebook for Appointments to Alberta’s Public Agencies, have been implemented and are operating effectively and efficiently.

Conclusion

We conclude that Government of Alberta departments and agencies implemented the processes described in the Guidebook for Appointments to Alberta’s Public Agencies. We also conclude that those processes did not consistently operate effectively and efficiently.
