Auditor General to attend Public Accounts Committee Meeting with Seniors, Community and Social Services

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, April 23 at 8 a.m. with Seniors, Community and Social Services about the ministry’s 2022–2023 annual report and the outstanding recommendations from our office. Auditor General Doug Wylie and Assistant Auditor General Patty Hayes will attend the meeting as support to the committee members.

Five of the six outstanding recommendations are not ready for an assessment, but the department has provided an implementation plan. They include:

• a 2019 recommendation related to Income Support (repeated in March 2024).
• three May 2022 recommendations related to Family Support for Children with Disabilities.
• a 2013 recommendation related to Control Systems at the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (repeated in March 2022).

During the financial year-end audit, the Auditor General will assess a 2014 recommendation related to improving user access control processes (repeated in November 2020).

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts reviews the reports of the Auditor General of Alberta and the public accounts of the province. Appointed under the Auditor General Act, the Auditor General is an Officer of the Legislative Assembly and is the auditor of the Consolidated Financial Statements of the Province of Alberta and most provincial agencies, boards, commissions, and regulated funds.
